Nrithya Kshetra..
A Beacon of Bharatanatyam in the North East of England - A Sacred Space for Classical Dance
Nrithya Kshetra - meaning "a dance space" - is a vibrant centre dedicated to preserving and promoting the timeless art of Bharatanatyam.
Rooted in over 50 years of tradition, the school was originally founded in India by Guru Pani, whose passion for dance carried across continents. After relocating to the UK with her husband, Col. Pani, she brought new life to her vision amidst a new cultural landscape, establishing Nrithya Kshetra as a hub of classical excellence.
Bringing Bharatanatyam to life from ancient temple rituals to modern theatre stages, Bharatanatyam has evolved while retaining its devotional heart.
At Nrithya Kshetra, students learn not just the movements - but the meaning, discipline, and emotion behind every gesture. Through performances at temples, cultural festivals, and community events, the dancers of Nrithya Kshetra bring Indian heritage to life, sharing stories that transcend language and resonate with diverse audiences.
A Legacy of Devotion and Excellence with more than five decades of teaching experience.
Guru Pani, a native of Chennai and recipient of the prestigious Kalaimamani Award, has trained nearly 100 dancers across Middlesbrough, Newcastle, South Shields, and surrounding areas.
Her inspiring journey - from her early days on stage in India to being honoured at Buckingham Palace reflects a life deeply committed to the classical arts.
Join our dance family at Nrithya Kshetra - students of all ages are welcomed into a nurturing environment where culture, creativity, and discipline come together. Whether you are beginning your dance journey or deepening your practice, you will find a space that honours tradition while embracing new possibilities.
Experience the grace. Embody the rhythm. Tell the story.
